Morissette was born on June 1, 1974 in Ottawa, Ontario to parents Georgia Mary Ann (née Feuerstein) and Alan Richard Morissette. She has two brothers: an older brother Chad and a twin brother Wade who is 12 minutes younger.
As a child, Morissette began studying piano, ballet, and jazz dance at age six and started writing songs at age nine. At age 11, she began singing and entertaining at Ottawa hospitals and community centers with police officer and amateur folk singer Dominic D’Arcy.
